Introducing you to some of the colourful and varied clients
who currently frequent Creekside's hallowed rehearsal rooms.
The Dirge are a London based band made up
of Singer Kahli, Guitarist Joe, Bass player Seb, and drummer
Steve. They've been together since 1994 and an album is currently
being mixed and is due for release in mid-2006. The band did
a lot of gigs throughout 2005 including a slot at 'Bright
Young Things' at Koko. The Dirge were on the bill alongside
Carl Barat's band 'Dirty Pretty Things' and 'The Paddingtons'.
In the band's own words: Kahli is a self-taught hairdresser
who just got out of prison - where it’s rumoured she
gave birth to Pete Doherty's 3rd illegitimate child (a girl
she named 'Pete Jnr') and has since given up for adoption…
Steve was once a prize-winning bullfighter, but hung up his
cape to focus entirely on drumming and drinking… Seb
is the 17 year old secret love-child of David Bowie and splits
his time between playing bass and studying for his A-levels…
and Joe is a rocket scientist, who recently lost his job after
repeatedly showing up to shuttle launches late, and wasted.
The Shortwave Set have been regular customers
of Creekside Studios for a couple of years. In that time,
they have gone from strength to strength, releasing their
highly acclaimed debut album 'The Debt Collection'. Made from
an assortment of Deptford market junk and 50p charity shop
tunes, fed into a dilapidated laptop, what has emerged are
a bunch of uniquely beguiling, off kilter hangover classics
The band have also enjoyed a european tour and recently have
supported Goldfrapp on tour.
Local rock quartet, Officer Kicks have played together since their mid teens. Their debut single at the end of 2007 earned them national airplay, tips, playlists, a tour of the 2008 festivals around the release of their album The Six Grand Plot. Described by an Xfm presenter as "One of the best live bands I have ever seen", this is where they hone their crowd winning sets. Visit their
'myspace' website and hear some of their tracks.
Hailing from Deptford , The Phobics were
formed in the winter of 1999. rising from the ashes of Living
in Texas, Bad Karma Beckons, The Barbs, Rumorosa and Dirty
Harry. These musical misfits have bin around the block, and
know their three chord punk rock 'n' roll chops. Think back
to a time when Garage meant The Sonics,The Seeds, Roky Erickson
et al, -trashy guitars, cars and girls. In the last
year alone The Phobics have been wowing the London punk scene
and picking up new fans with well-received gigs with likes
of The Star Spangles, Midnight Creeps and The Fleshies from
America.
